Abstract

The Great River Road National Scenic Byway, a 10-state All-American Road, is a one-of-a-kind travel corridor showcasing the Mississippi River’s rich cultural, historical, and natural heritage. Due to its unique structure—crossing state lines and frequently changing road names—navigating the route presents significant challenges for travelers, limiting accessibility and diminishing the byway’s potential as a driver of tourism and economic growth. This project, “Drive the Great River Road – National Scenic Byway,” proposes the development of a cutting-edge navigation app, a companion website for trip planning, a printed promotional map, and a targeted online marketing campaign to promote the national scenic byway to audiences across the United States and Canada. These tools will enhance traveler safety and convenience, increase visitation, and support local economies by generating jobs and sustaining diverse businesses. By leveraging technology and strategic promotion, this initiative will unlock the full potential of the Great River Road, preserving its legacy while fostering vibrant tourism and economic opportunity.
